Looking for some ways to spice up your summer months while stuck at home? There are plenty of family fun activities to do in your backyard that are easy and can keep the family entertained for hours. Make the most of your quality time together with some of these fun ideas below.
Create a Splash Pad with a Tarp and Sprinkler
When the summer heat kicks in, you can cool off in the backyard by making your own splash pad. All you need is a tarp and a sprinkler and you’re good to go. If you have a slide that the kids use – even better. Just line it up against the tarp, keep the water flowing, and zip along with it for a full day of fun in the sun. Add some summer beverages with a tropical playlist and you won’t even miss the water park.
Veggie Garden
If you have enough space for planters, growing veggies can be a very fun, educational, and even relaxing way to let everyone get their hands messy. It’s also an incredibly rewarding hobby that you can always learn from and enjoy when you get to harvest the food you’ve all grown together. There are many beginner’s guides available online that will show you how to get started step by step.
Make an Obstacle Course
If you want to get the kids up and off the couch, you could make an obstacle course in the backyard. You can use whatever you have on hand to get everyone to compete as they climb through, jump over or twist around obstacles – hula hoops, boxes, skipping ropes – get creative and have fun with it.
Have a Picnic
Picnics are something we always talk about but rarely have the time to do. During the summer with more time to spare, why not create the picnic setting of your dreams in your own backyard? You can get the kids involved to make it a lavish affair, complete with cozy blankets, pillows, or even an outdoor rug and table setting.
Make a Bird Feeder
When you want to get crafty, a bird feeder is the perfect creative project, even if your kids are younger. All you need to do is cut out the sides of a milk carton. Then pierce a hole at the top and tie string around it. Paint the feeder, fill it with birdseed, hang it on a nearby branch and wait for the birds to swoop in.
