In Ottawa, there are many things to do in the winter. Whether it’s right in the city or tucked away in the outskirts, the options are endless. If you and your family need some fresh air, these activities will not only give you that but will also create memories for a lifetime.
Jack Pine Trail
Jack Pine Trail consists of three loops and is perfect for beginners. Not only is the trail beautiful year-round, but you can also bring some birdseed along and they will eat right out of the palm of your hand.
If you’re not into feeding the birds, don’t worry. The trail itself is enough to make you want to stay and enjoy nature. If you’re looking for more of a challenge, try snowshoeing!
Take Out Afternoon Tea
The Fairmont Château Laurier is an important part of Ottawa and its history. They are also known for their afternoon tea at the dine-in restaurant, Zoe’s.
Right now, they are offering it to go! Zoe’s currently offers two types of afternoon tea. One for adults and the other for children 12 and below. In each, you get scones, pastries, sandwiches, and tea. For the children, you can swap out tea for hot chocolate.
You may be wondering where you can eat and drink your afternoon tea. Major Hill’s Park is just a 5-minute walk from the Fairmont Château Laurier! No need to bundle up – the tea and hot chocolate will keep you warm.
Lansdowne Park Skating Court
Step aside, Rideau Canal. Lansdowne Park Skating Court is an ice rink that’s made from refrigerated ice surfaces. With a view of the Aberdeen Pavilion, this magical skating rink is perfect for date nights, families, and just to get out of the house.
Don’t forget to book a reservation! The rink is open from 6 am to 11 pm daily.
Chapman Mills Conservation Area
Tucked away in Barrhaven is the Chapman Mills Conservation Area. It’s right along the Rideau River and boardwalks will take you through scenic views that lead to the Vimy Memorial Bridge.
This 1.5 km trail is open all year round, so you can enjoy it during any season.
Carlington Hill
Carlington Hill is a popular toboggan hill in Ottawa. From the top of the hill, you can see part of the city. But in 30 seconds, you’ll be down at the bottom! It’s that quick!
