Whether skipping out on your daily commute, getting to stay in your pjs for a little longer or not needing to pack a lunch, working from home can offer a lot of benefits other than increased safety. But working from your spare bedroom doesn’t come without the potential of employees starting to get a little bit stir crazy. What if we told you that you had the option to work outside and soak up all of the beautiful sunny weather instead of being cooped up indoors? Here are four ways that you can transform your backyard into the perfect home office!
Patio Furniture
Having a dedicated workspace in your yard with comfortable furniture is the first step in creating your own backyard office oasis. Having an outdoor table and chair or sofa to set up at is key – you won’t want to spend your time trying to find a comfortable position on the ground, or sitting in uncomfortable furniture that will eventually have you moving inside. Having a table or desk that you can keep your laptop, notepads and water on is just as important and is the secret to staying productive!
Shade
Once you have your shade sorted out, it’s a good idea to choose an area in your yard that is well shaded in order to keep the glare off of your screen, keep your laptop from overheating, and prevent you from burning! If you’re struggling to find a shaded area, it’s always a good idea to set up an umbrella.
Lighting
If you’re looking to create an office space in your backyard that you can use in the evening too, it’s important to make sure that you have adequate lighting! Sure, your laptop generates some light from its screen, but over time this can be very straining on your eyes. Setting up string lights, solar powered outdoor lamps, or any type of LED light will take your workspace to the next level.
Outlets and Power Blocks
All it takes for your productive day outdoors to turn upside down is losing power. When choosing where to set up camp, keep in mind that you will want to have an outlet nearby for plugging in your laptop, phone, speaker, or any other device you may need to use during the day. You can plan ahead and charge them up the night before, but they likely won’t last a full workday. If you don’t have available power outlets close by, look into purchasing a power block or extension cord!
